Susan Bartelstone is a Personal Safety Specialist,  nationally-featured writer and 15 year teaching veteran.  She's received crime prevention  training from such law enforcement agencies as the FBI, the New York State Department of Justice and the Long Island Association of Crime Prevention Officers and has 17 years combined training in close quarters combat, defensive tactics and martial arts. 

Professional Background:  considered an expert on safety issues, Ms. Bartelstone:

  • presented oral or written testimony four times before New York State Senate and Assembly committees

  • served as a participant on the Governor's Taskforce on Rape and Sexual Assault

  • served as advisor to four rape and domestic violence taskforces

  • was a founding member of the New York State Personal Defense Coalition (which advocated for the legalization of defense sprays in New York State).

Her unique and practical methods for avoiding crime and defusing confrontations have been featured in a long and varied list of media (including America's Most Wanted and The Satellite Sisters radio show) and in over two dozen publications.

 TV appearances include: the New York City Marathon's "Starting Line" program, America's Most Wanted,  and the award-winning NBC News Special "Survival Guide."  

As the former director of Incident Management, Inc.,  a nationally-cited safety skills training firm, she's taught Personal Safety Workshops to thousands of women (and men). 

The Safety Solutions Company  is a nationally-recognized New York-based firm which has taught safety skills to thousands of women (and men) in Fortune 500 corporations, non-profits, social service agencies, community groups and schools for over 15 years.  Using a format that is both educational and entertaining, programs range from one hour lectures to half-day workshops.  

With an emphasis on avoiding and defusing violence, topics include how to be mentally prepared to deal with crime and violence before it happens, how to make assessments and act quickly under pressure, how to develop the "attitude" which can deter attacks, and how to respond to verbal and physical confrontations.  There is no physical contact in these programs, so anyone can participate no matter their age or physical capabilities.
